Spring Is In The Air At Bijorhca

Jewelry, from fine to fashion, was the primary focus at Bijorhca, the semi-annual trade fair held in Paris last month boosting exhibitors as well as visitors from all over the world. Other categories shown were watches as well as beads and other findings for the jewelry industry.

The fair was promoted as a spring market. A well-designed trend display area promoted four themes: “Sensuelle Romance”, a soft, feminine story, “Géométrie Variable”, geometric shapes in jewelry, “Terre de Soleil”, referencing an earthy, tribal look, and“Escale Exotique” evoking exotic travels. However, collections shown could be considered  seasonless, applicable to any time of the year depending on the location and needs of the retailer.

SENSUAL ROMANCE

Lace, voile, chiffon and satin evoke ultra femininity, and this ready-to-wear/fabric mood has also been referenced as the “Boudoir” trend. Colours usually focus on pastels and white, and jewelry keeps up the momentum with pale stones, mostly in gold settings. Floral motifs and infinity knots add a truly romantic note.

VARIABLE GEOMETRY

Openwork triangles, circles and square motifs from previous seasons have evolved into three-dimensional orbs, buttons and cubes. Precise outlines are used to create interesting new graphic patterns. The classic colour palette of red/white and blue plus black lends itself to accessorize the crisp, tailored, modern career look promoted in ready-to-wear.

SUN-DRENCHED EARTH

As temperatures rise, fashion becomes less formal, veering towards the casual. An important inspiration is again Africa, from safari themes to more tribal evocations. Jewelry expresses this mood via natural materials, leather, beads, hammered metals and a colour palette that echoes warm earth tones.

EXOTIC STOP-OVERS

Textiles set the tone with voluptuous giant floral prints and luscious fern and leaf prints. Summer fashions made of these colourful prints are inspired by far away places, from hidden jungle lodges to private get-away islands, and jewelry follows the lead with multi-colour necklaces and bracelets.
